Morristown Nonprofit Collecting Winter Coats Ahead Of Giveaway

Market Street Mission is seeking new and gently used coats before its annual November event on the Morristown Green."

MORRISTOWN, NJ — Market Street Mission is asking residents to clear out their closets and help keep their neighbors warm as the organization prepares for its annual winter coat giveaway in Morristown.

Throughout October, the nonprofit is collecting new and gently used winter coats for men, women, and children, along with new hats, gloves, and scarves.

The donations will be distributed during Market Street Mission's annual Coat Giveaway, scheduled for Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Morristown Green.

Anyone who needs a winter coat is welcome to attend, according to the organization. Men's, women's, and children's sizes will be available.

If bad weather forces the event indoors, the giveaway will instead be held at Market Street Mission, 9 Market St. in Morristown.

The Mission has distributed free winter clothing to people in need for more than 30 years. Last year, nearly 3,000 coats, 2,917 in total, were handed out during giveaways in Morristown, Paterson and Asbury Park.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to find coats for my family, especially my children,” one previous giveaway recipient said. “My kids are always growing, and it’s hard to buy a new coat every year, so I’m grateful we can find them at the Mission.”

How To Donate

Coats and other winter gear can be dropped off at the Market Street Mission Thrift Store at 25 George St. in Morristown.

The donation dock is open from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, except Wednesdays.

Those who would rather purchase new items can also have coats shipped directly to the organization through Market Street Mission's Amazon wish list.

The nonprofit is also seeking volunteers to help with this year's giveaway.

More information about donating, volunteering, and the Nov. 7 event is available on the Market Street Mission website.
