Morristown Schools Awarded Nearly $12K In New Educational Grants

These grants will support programs not covered by school budgets, including scriptwriting and creative writing workshops.

MORRISTOWN, NJ – The Morris Educational Foundation (MEF) has announced a new round of grants totaling $11,600 to enrich the educational experience for students in the Morris School District. These grants fund programs and resources that are not covered by the school budget or tax dollars.

The MEF aims to bridge gaps and ensure students have access to exceptional learning opportunities that extend beyond the classroom.

The MEF supports innovative initiatives designed to inspire creativity, strengthen academic excellence, and provide hands-on learning experiences throughout the school year. With this latest round of grants, the Foundation has awarded over $100,000 to date this school year. This funding is attributed to the continued generosity of donors.

Several grants were awarded at the Jan. 12 Morris School District Board of Education meeting. One grant will bring a professional scriptwriter and actors to Morristown High School. They will guide advanced Creative Writing students in crafting and performing original short dialogue scenes, strengthening their storytelling and communication skills. Another grant will allow third-graders District-wide to participate in Writers Circle Workshops. These workshops provide interactive, confidence-building creative writing experiences.

Additionally, Morristown High School’s Chemistry and Math Departments will receive support through two separate grants. These grants were designated by a generous donor and reinforce community commitment to academic excellence. Ann Rhines, MEF Grants Chair and former teacher and Morris School District Board of Education member, commented on the impact of these initiatives.
