MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Morris County's Board of County Commissioners held its annual Reorganization meeting on Jan. 6. During the meeting, the board selected new leadership.

The annual reorganization meeting was held in person for the first time since the pandemic's outbreak in 2020.

The meeting began with the inauguration of Commissioner Douglas Cabana, the board's longest-serving member, who was sworn in for a tenth term. Senator Anthony Bucco officiated while Amy Bucco, the Commissioner's sister and the senator's wife, held the bible.

Commissioner Thomas Mastrangelo was sworn in by his daughter, Passaic County Assistant Prosecutor Brittney Mastrangelo, who held the bible.

Following the swearing-in of fellow board members Cabana, Mastrangelo and Myers to new, three-year terms and Morris County Sheriff James Gannon to another term, Commissioner John Krickus was appointed as the 2023 Director of the Board of County Commissioners.

“Morris County is the best run county in New Jersey, by far,” Krickus said, noting multiple accomplishments achieved by the county. “Some of the safest towns in New Jersey; county property taxes are among the lowest in the state, and our Vocational School and County College are nationally recognized. Morris residents enjoy our leading park system, open space, farmland and historic preservation. Is this heaven? No, it’s Morris County.”

The Morris County Sheriff's Office Joint Honor Guard returned for the event, with Robert McNally, Deputy Chief of Investigations for the Morris County Prosecutor's Office, playing the bagpipes.

Ella Conroy and Victoria Cooney, both 10th-grade students at Morris County Vocational School, performed the National Anthem. Conroy is in the design academy, and Cooney is in the biotechnology academy, officials said.

Monsignor John Hart of The Assumption Parish in Morristown gave the invocations, and Father Stepan Bilyk of Saint John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Whippany gave the benediction.

The next work session and regular meeting of the Morris County Board of County Commissioners will be held on Jan. 11, 2022. The work session starts at 4:30 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 7 p.m. The meetings will continue to be held in the Administration & Records Building and all members of the public are invited to attend.
