State-of-the-art operating room at Morristown Medical Center Accommodates Increased Valve Patients

Morristown Medical Center, part of Atlantic Health System, opened a state-of-the-art, hybrid operating room to accommodate the increasing number of transcatheter (minimally invasive) structural heart procedures and transcatheter aortic valve replacements (TAVRs) performed.

The operating room has highly specialized equipment and monitoring technology for both open heart and minimally invasive procedures.

The inaugural case was a complex percutaneous mitral valve-in-valve replacement performed by Dr. John Brown, Dr. Robert Kipperman, and Dr. Philippe Genereux. The patient was discharged home 24 hours later.

The Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute at Morristown Medical Center performs the most TAVR procedures and is the largest structural heart center in the state of New Jersey. Since the beginning of the program, the heart team at Morristown Medical Center has performed more than 1,500 transcatheter structural heart procedures, including over 1200 transcatheter aortic valve replacements.
