Two members of the Jerzey Derby Brigade participate in a Derby "wedding" after the Corporal Punishers bout Saturday night.

Two members of the Jerzey Derby Brigade's Corporal Punishers roller derby team got hitched after battling it out on Saturday, Aug. 28, at Inline Morristown.

How's that for making up?

The derby wedding, where two members of the derby group commit to support each other, took place after the event in the Inline Morristown parking lot. Corporal Punishers Co-Captain # 23 Bruta Lee (Leona Lawrence) "married" teammate # 2 Syd Deuce (Danielle Douglas).

The nuptials were witnessed by family, friends and roller derby fans. Both derby wives wore black. The officient also wore black. The ceremony got underway at about 9:30 p.m. after the Corporal Punishers punished the Blue Collar Betties in a bout and won earlier in the evening.

After the ceremony everyone went to the Famished Frog for the derby after party.

A derby wedding signifies when two teammates look out for each other and mentor each other on the best techniques and strategy. Technically speaking all members of a roller derby team look out for each other but in the case of "derby wives" they form a special bond that goes a step farther.

The whole derby wedding ceremony is for fun and for all involved to act silly. At some derby weddings some team members or friends and family members will volunteer to be bridesmaids and groomsmen. Derby weddings have a long history that goes back many years in roller derby lore.
