Prescribed Burns In Morris Parks On Monday

If you see flames in these areas, they're supposed to be there.

MORRIS, NJ — Prescribed burns are being held at several Morris County parks on Monday, the Morris County Park Commission said. The burns are held in cooperation with the New Jersey Forest Fire Service, a unit of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Parks and Forestry.

218 acres across the county will be burned in an effort to reduce wildfires by removing built-up dried vegetation. Burns have been held across the state since 1928.

Areas of Lewis Morris County Park along Patriot's Path will be burned on Monday, April 9. In addition, the following areas will be burned in Chester :

  • Bamboo Brooke Outdoor Education Center
  • Willowwood Arboretum
  • Kay Environmental Center

Residents shouldn't be alarmed if they see smoke and fire in those locations. If fire is spotted outside of those locations, residents should alert emergency personnel.
