This roundabout is being built to reduce carbon emissions, prevent serious accidents, shorten traffic delays, improve fuel efficiency, reduce speeding and improve pedestrian safety, according to township officials.
Large commercial vehicles and trucks, as well as private vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians, will be able to use the roundabout.
Crosswalks for pedestrians and cyclists are being installed at each roundabout entrance and exit, marked by pavement markings and accompanied by flashing signage and hawk signals to alert drivers of pedestrians preparing to cross.
The new roundabout's goal is to reduce queues and delays in the area while also providing substantial safety improvements.
The M-Station project, which is currently under construction, will replace the Midtown Shopping Center strip mall and parking lot by the Morristown Train Station. The project consists of two buildings, a 1,000-car parking garage, retail space and public green space.
