Dr. Melissa Scherzer Psy.D of Scherzer Clinical & Behavioral Psychology located in Morristown, and a team of volunteers dedicated Friday, December 6th as a “Day of Caring” to assist Deirdre’s House, the Center for Morris County’s child victims of abuse and or neglect. For over a decade, Dr. Scherzer has worked with children, adolescents and adults experiencing a range of mental health issues. The Scherzer Day of Caring team included Dr. Scherzer, Bob Scherzer, Lisa Sofia, Aimee Ruscher and Gail Bernstein, all of Randolph, and Maggie Kohn of Kohn’s Consulting, and Morris Plains Chief of Police Jason Kohn. 2019 “Day of Caring” teams have included volunteers from Novartis, Sanofi, Century 21 Department Store, Wiss and Company, Fusion Academy of Morristown, The Pingry School, Princeton Women’s Network of Northern NJ, and BD.

Founded in 1994, Deirdre’s House, is the leading resource for children in Morris County who have suffered abuse, neglect or witnessed domestic violence. It is the only site in Morris County where a child victim can be interviewed and digitally recorded by law enforcement, medically examined and treated, and clinically counseled in English and Spanish, all free-of-charge and all under one roof.

Deirdre’s House Executive Director Maria Vinci Savettiere, Esq. commented, “Because Deirdre’s House has a small staff that must focus on the day-to-day needs of child victims, it is difficult for us to tackle large scale tasks to maintain the Deirdre’s House Facility. We depend on community volunteers to help assist us with these projects through Days of Caring. Volunteers help us maintain the child friendly setting that is critical to helping child victims recover from the trauma he or she has suffered.”
