Speedwell Ave. Floods In Morris Plains With More Rain In Forecast
A flood watch for Morris County will continue through 2 a.m. Friday, with potential thunderstorms persisting.
MORRIS PLAINS, NJ — Speedwell Avenue flooded Thursday at the train underpass in Morris Plains, officials said. Police advised the public to plan an alternate route, as heavy rain and flooding risks continue throughout Greater Morristown.
The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for Morris County through 2 a.m. Friday. Excessive runoff may result in the flooding of creeks, streams, poor-drainage spots and urban areas, the agency says. Read more: Flood Watch For 11 NJ Counties: See Thursday Storm Timeline
Forecasters expect 1-1.5 inches of rain in the Morristown area through 2 a.m. Friday, with the potential for localized flooding through the evening.

Here's the National Weather Service's forecast for the Morristown area as of 4:30 p.m. Thursday:
- Thursday afternoon: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 50. East wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
- Friday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2 a.m., then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m., then a slight chance of showers after 3 a.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Low around 46. East wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.
- Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 61. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
- Friday night: A chance of showers, mainly after 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 41. South wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
