A water service replacement project will cause traffic detours and delays in the area near Washington Street for two weeks.
MORRISTOWN, NJ — Traffic disruptions near Washington Street between Conklin Avenue and Cattano Avenue, according to town officials, may make it difficult to get into and around downtown Morristown.
Southeast Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority (SMCMUA) announced that a water main replacement project along Washington Street will begin on Tuesday, Aug. 2, and is expected to last for two weeks.
SMCMUA will be performing paving and related activities on Washington Street between Conklin Avenue and Cattano Avenue between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., according to officials.

Motorists should expect detours, road closures, and limited access to certain facilities during the project's duration. The Morristown Police Department will assist and facilitate this work.
The project will replace approximately 6,200 linear feet of aging ductile iron water pipe as well as 96 valves. Along with the replacement of 19 fire hydrants and the replacement of aging water meters with new state-of-the-art technology.

"The 140-year-old unlined, cast-iron water mains in the Morristown area have reached the end of their useful life and are in need of replacement. If these facilities are not upgraded, the water mains and service connections in this area will continue to experience disruptive water main breaks that result in service interruptions to customers," SMCMUA said.
