Vigil Tuesday Night For Morristown Man After Losing Colon Cancer Battle

Javier Avelar was just 21.

Javier Avelar was funny, energetic, and full of life.

The 21-year-old Morristown native died Sunday after a long battle with colon cancer.

Avelar graduated Morristown High School in 2013 and went on to study at County College of Morris. During his freshman year he was diagnosed with aggressive colon cancer, which he fought for 18 months.

Avelar wanted to become a nurse so he could help others. He could be seen running around Morristown with his friends or out playing soccer. Avelar was energetic, silly, happy, and always quick with a joke.

On Tuesday night, from 7 to 8 p.m. in front of Morristown High School, a candlelight vigil will be held to honor and remember the young man who made a difference in the lives of so many others. Friends and family members will be there to share stories and memories of Avelar as well.
