• Sports Saturdays: Inside Mountainside's Aces Softball League (tapinto.net) — Mountainside residents are packing the fields for the Aces softball league, which has grown from a single struggling team into 11 squads and roughly 165 local players. Games, mostly for ages 30 and up, are played Sunday mornings at Deerfield and have evolved into family-friendly gatherings with food, playground time, and plenty of neighborly camaraderie alongside the competition.
   

• N.J. pumpkin displays 2026: Where to see illuminated jack-o-lanterns (nj.com subscription) — Families in and around Mountainside can look forward to a Union County Pumpkin Sail at Echo Lake Park, with details still to come, plus several other illuminated jack-o-lantern displays across New Jersey from late September through early November. Options range from massive walk-through trails to free community nights, offering cider, entertainment, and plenty of photo-worthy pumpkins.
