1 Dead, 2 Hurt In Newark; Police Probe Fatal Shooting

A 23-year-old Newark resident died in a fatal shooting that also wounded two other people early Tuesday morning, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — A 23-year-old Newark resident died in a fatal shooting that also wounded two other people early Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Newark police found Abdul Crowley, 23, on the 100-block of Mitchell Place at 12:50 a.m. He was transported to Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and pronounced dead at 1:11 a.m., according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Department of Public Safety.

Two other victims, a male and a female, were taken to the hospital for treatment, authorities said.

No arrests have been made as of Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating the shooting.
