NEW JERSEY — The Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission (PVSC) recently recognized dozens of companies throughout New Jersey with a “perfect environmental compliance” award.
A record 122 businesses were named for the 2024 calendar year. It’s the 30th consecutive year that the PVSC has conducted the awards, which recognize companies that operated in the previous calendar year without having incurred a single effluent (wastewater discharge) or reporting violation.
Here’s what to know about the awards, the commission said:

“The PVSC issues Significant Industrial Users that discharge into its Newark treatment works a Sewer Use Permit or Liquid Waste Acceptance Permit (for hauled wastes). These permits include limits for the quality of effluent the companies may discharge into the sewer system. These companies must also monitor and report on their discharges to PVSC every month. Compliance violations typically occur in instances when a company exceeds its permitted discharge limits, neglects to take requisite samples, or fails to file its monthly reports on time.”
Each facility that goes a full calendar year without a single violation earns a PVSC Permit Compliance Award.
