2 Found Guilty After Fatal Shooting In Newark Three Years Ago: ECPO
A stolen Dodge Durango pulled up alongside a group of men in Newark. Then the people inside started shooting, prosecutors said.
NEWARK, NJ — Two men have been found guilty of crimes in connection with a shooting that killed one person and injured others three years ago in Newark, prosecutors announced this week.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office released the following statement about the shooting, which took place near Maple and Chancellor avenues:
“Just after 7 p.m. on May 6, 2019, a group of men were standing and talking near a gas station, a Chinese restaurant and a barber shop. Suddenly, a stolen Dodge Durango pulled up and the occupants began shooting at the men. As they ran, Tymeer Gumbs, 25, of Newark, exited the Durango and chased down Murad Harris, shooting him in the back of the head. Gumbs ran back to the Durango, put his gun in the face of another man and pulled the trigger, but the weapon jammed. The Durango fled and was pursued by police but escaped.”
The Essex County Homicide Task Force investigated the shooting and identified Gumbs and Isaiah Kane, 25, of Newark, as conspirators in the murder, prosecutors said.
