3-Alarm Fire Rages In Newark; 16 Left Without A Home

More than a dozen adults and a child were relocated after a fire in Newark. A probe into the blaze's origin continues, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — More than a dozen adults and a child were left without a home after a three-alarm fire in Newark last weekend, authorities said.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, the blaze took place at 851 South 19th Street on Saturday. Firefighters arrived at the scene at 7:07 a.m. A second alarm was called at 7:08 a.m., and a third alarm called at 7:38 a.m.

“Two additional buildings [were] exposed at 853 South 19th Street and 849 South 19th Street. The fire was considered under control at 9:42 a.m.”

Nobody was injured, but 15 adults and one child were relocated after the blaze, authorities said.

The Newark Department of Public Safety’s arson unit is investigating the cause and origin of the fire, authorities said.
