Black House Black Joy NJ: Free Weekly Film Series Launches at Newark Culture Club (thenewarktimes.com) — Starting Saturday, September 5, Newark Culture Club on Broad Street will host a free weekly "Black House Black Joy NJ" film series celebrating the city's deep ties to house music and Black and LGBTQ+ creators. Every Saturday in September at 5 p.m., residents can gather downtown for documentaries, visual projects, and conversation in a space that highlights Newark's cultural legacy and local businesses.
   

2. Proposed Newark Housing Changes Would Align Affordable Units with City Incomes (tapinto.net) — Newark officials are weighing changes to the city's Inclusionary Zoning Ordinance so affordable housing requirements better match Newark residents' actual incomes instead of higher regional figures. The proposal would redefine "median income," shift how affordable units are distributed, and increase units reserved for very low-income residents, with community members urging more public input before final adoption.
   

3. How one man's 'crazy faith' built a Black cowboy legacy in N.J. (nj.com subscription) — A Hunterdon County horseman regularly trailers his horses into Newark to give city kids hands-on time with animals and a window into Black cowboy culture. Through the Crazy Faith Riders club, he and fellow members visit parades, school events and giveaways, letting Newark and other urban children meet and sometimes ride horses while learning about African American equestrian history.
   

4. Man accused of hiding explosive lab at his suburban N.J. home now facing federal charges (nj.com subscription) — A Denville man accused of running an explosives lab is now also facing federal charges after appearing in Newark federal court this week. Investigators say they found 109 containers of homemade explosives and extensive lab materials at his home, and he could face lengthy prison time and steep fines if convicted on multiple explosives-related counts.
   

5. 'Prayerful witness' offered for immigrants (umnews.org) — United Methodists from across New Jersey recently gathered outside Newark's Delaney Hall immigration detention center to pray, protest conditions, and support detainees' families with food, gift cards, and information. Speakers near Newark Airport called for the facility's closure and greater accountability after reported overcrowding, poor medical care, and recent deaths, urging people of faith to stand with immigrant neighbors.
