4 Weekend Fires Leave Dozens Homeless In Newark
It was a busy weekend for Newark firefighters, who faced down four separate blazes on Saturday and Sunday.

NEWARK, NJ — It was a busy weekend for Newark firefighters, who faced down four separate blazes on Saturday and Sunday, authorities say. Almost three dozen people were left homeless after the fires, which took place on Aldine Street, Montrose Street, 3rd Street and Napoleon Street.
The Newark Department of Public Safety provided the following statements about each incident. Keep updated with local public safety alerts at the Patch Newark Facebook page.
ALDINE STREET – “At 7:35 p.m., 53 firefighters brought a fire under control at 257 Aldine Street. The building is a 2 1/2 story occupied residential structure. Four people were evacuated with one male adult transported to St. Barnabas Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. 10 people were relocated.”

MONTROSE STREET – “Another fire occurred at 43 Montrose Street shortly after 4 p.m. The fire, at this 2 1/2 occupied residential building, was brought under control at 4:29 p.m. No reported injuries during this incident, with 4 adults and 3 children relocated.”
3RD STREET – “At approximately 2 p.m., firefighters brought a fire under control at 47 3rd Street. Some 40 firefighters responded to the fire. Two families, totaling eight adults and 7 children, were relocated. No one was reported injured at this location.”

NAPOLEON STREET – “Newark firefighters responded to a working fire at 72 Napoleon Street in the East Ward [on Sunday].”
