$5K Reward To Catch Newark Man’s Killer; Cops Seek Suspect

The victim, a 22-year-old man, was found with a gunshot wound to the chest, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — Authorities are offering a $5,000 reward for information that helps to apprehend a suspect in a fatal shooting that took place in Newark last year.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and Essex County Sheriff’s Office released the following details about the shooting, which took place on March 2, 2024:

“At approximately 10:47 p.m., the Newark Police Department received a 911 call of a man down on the [300-block of South 8th Street]. Upon arrival, officers found the victim – 22-year-old Jaheem Futrell of Newark – in the rear of the location with a gunshot wound to the chest. Futrell was pronounced [dead] at the scene a short time later.”
