6 Injured, 31 Displaced By Explosion At Newark Apartments: Reports
Demolition of the building at the Stephen Crane Housing Complex began Saturday; the cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
NEWARK, NJ — Six people were injured, one seriously, and 31 people were displaced from their homes after an explosion at an apartment building in Newark on Friday night, according to reports.
One person suffered significant burns in the explosion on South Pine Lane that happened about 6 p.m. Friday in a building managed by the Newark Housing Authority, ABC7 reported.
The American Red Cross said in a tweet that it was "helping 31 people in 12 familieswith emergency assistance for food, clothing and other immediate needs." The Newark Housing Authority provided temporary housing for the families, the Red Cross said.

The explosion at the Stephen Crane Housing Complex could be felt throughout the complex, witnesses told TapInto Newark. About a quarter of the building was damaged, that report said.
What remained standing of the building was demolished on Saturday, CBS2 reported. That report noted authorities were calling it a building collapse, though video captured an explosion at the building.
