Armed Robber In Newark Concealed Assault Rifle In Shopping Bag: Police
Police are searching for the man who robbed a business in Newark armed with an assault rifle, authorities said.
NEWARK, NJ — Police are searching for the man who robbed a business in Newark last week armed with an assault rifle, which he concealed in a shopping bag, authorities announced Sunday.
According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, the robbery took place on Tuesday, March 5. Here’s what happened, police said:
“At approximately 10:46 p.m., a man walked into a business at Broadway near Bloomfield Place carrying a shopping bag. The suspect approached the register and pulled an assault rifle out of the bag and announced a robbery. The clerk went to the back room, filled the bag with other bags, and gave them to suspect, who fled heading south on Broadway after entering the driver’s side of a dark-colored SUV.”
Police said the suspect was 6 feet and 240 pounds. He was wearing a black bubble jacket, red hooded sweatshirt, red hat, blue jeans and red sneakers (see photos below).
