Author Edward Jardim Speaks about New Book The Ironbound

at Van Buren Branch Library, 140 Van Buren Street, Newark, on Saturday, June 18, from 1-2 pm

Hear the fascinating story of how the working class neighborhood on Newark's east side was transformed from a rural marshland into an urban industrial powerhouse. Known for the metalworking businesses and the rail lines that separated it from the rest of Newark, the Ironbound became home for waves of immigrants, seeking work. Today the Ironbound is a popular destination, notable for the thriving commercial corridor of Ferry Street and for numerous Spanish, Portuguese and Brazilian restaurants.

Following the talk, there will be a reception with light refreshments. For more information about the program, contact Van Buren Branch Library, 140 Van Buren Street, Newark, at 973-733-7750.
