While Essex County – the home of Newark Airport – wasn’t among those five counties, the area is already seeing its own transportation woes.

As of 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the airport had seen 181 total delays and 143 cancellations for the day, a number that grew throughout the morning, according to FlightAware.com.

Newark Airport was seeing departure delays of 31 minutes to 45 minutes averaging 4 hours 6 minutes (and increasing) due to taxiway congestion, FlightAware stated.

“Today, a wintry mix of snow and rain is expected in the NJ/NY metro area,” Newark Airport officials tweeted Tuesday morning. “These conditions, and anticipated wind gusts, may cause hazardous travel conditions. We ask that you budget extra travel time and confirm your flight with your airline before heading to the airport.”

Adding yet more misery to the mix, the Port Authority made the following announcement at 1:58 p.m.: "Due to a water main break within the City of Newark, all restrooms at EWR NEC Station are currently out of service. Updates provided as they become available."

The weather is also causing problems for bus riders, according to the Port Authority of NY/NJ, which runs the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan, a busy commuter depot for New Jersey residents who work in New York City.
