NEWARK, NJ — Newark police have identified a suspect in a shooting that wounded four people on Labor Day, authorities announced Monday.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, police responded to the 500-block of Clinton Avenue at 11:02 p.m. on Sept. 2 after getting a call about a shooting. The officers found three victims at the scene with gunshot wounds: a woman and two men.

Each victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment. A fourth victim, a man, arrived at University Hospital for treatment of gunshot injuries sustained at the same location.

Each victim is reportedly in stable condition, police said Monday.

Newark detectives are searching for a suspect who was seen getting out of a blue Honda Accord and pulling the door handle of a parked vehicle (see photos below). The Honda Accord was stolen in the city on Aug. 30, authorities noted.

The suspect was seen exiting the Honda Accord and stealing a white, four-door 2020 Mercedes Benz GLA, which was used in the shooting. The Mercedes Benz was reported stolen out of East Orange on Sept. 2, 2024, and was later set on fire at Stecher Street near Lyons Avenue in Newark, police said.

Authorities said the suspect has a heavy-set build, and was wearing a black ski mask, dark-colored baseball cap, hooded sweatshirt with a light-colored shirt hanging from underneath, dark-colored sweatpants, dark-colored gloves and gray New Balance sneakers.
