Check-Out Hunger® Returns for its 33rd Year

The Community FoodBank of New Jersey (CFBNJ) has kicked off its signature Check-Out Hunger® campaign’s 33rd year. In more than three decades, the highly visible and far-reaching annual fund and awareness raiser has generated millions of dollars to support Feeding America food banks in fourteen states, including New Jersey, plus Washington D.C.

Check-Out Hunger® gives shoppers at many major grocery and convenience store chains the option to round up their purchases or add $1, $3 or $5 donations at checkout while they shop. In CFBNJ’s 15-county service area, participating stores include Foodtown, The Fresh Grocer, Freshtown, Pathmark, PriceRite, QuickChek, ShopRite, Wegmans, and Wawa. Every $1 donated provides three nutritious meals, and 100% of the funds raised by stores in CFBNJ’s service area benefit struggling New Jerseyans.

CFBNJ created Check-Out Hunger® in 1991 and administers the program for 43 other food banks in Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, and Washington D.C. Funds raised in each participating food bank’s service area stay local. In 2023, Check-Out Hunger® raised a total of $2.8 million, including nearly $800,000 for CFBNJ alone.

• Wakefern (ShopRite/PriceRite/The Fresh Grocer) – November 11 – February 11
• Wawa – October 28 – December 15
• Wegmans – October 23 – November 30
