Columbus Day: What's Open, Closed in Newark

Here's what's open and closed on Columbus Day Monday in the City of Newark:

• Government offices: Closed.
• Post offices: Closed.
• Non-uniformed city services, including municipal court: Closed. residents who wish to resolve a warrant, post bail, file a temporary restraining order or file a citizen complaint may do so at any police precinct. In addition, residents can pay parking and traffic tickets through the website njmcdirect.com. To utilize this website, residents will need their summons number, including the prefix and the City of Newark’s court code, which is 0714. Despite the closure of the Municipal Court, there will be judges on call to issue Temporary Restraining Orders and to set bail.
• Department of Child and Family Well-Being's inspection services, transportation for seniors and home-delivered meal services and health clinic, including the school bus express free immunization program: Not operating.  
• Division of Vital Statistics: Closed. Residents will not be able to apply for permits, birth certificates, name-change certificates or marriage licenses, nor pay water or tax bills at Newark City Hall.

• PATH trains: Operating on a weekday schedule.
• Trash pickups, including recycling, that normally occur on Monday, Oct. 8 are moved to Thursday, Oct. 11. Residents who put out their garbage Monday are subject to fines. Garbage must be placed at curbs Thursday by 6 a.m. to be picked up. Residents whose trash is collected by a private contractor will not be affected by the holiday schedule.
