Dog Back Home After Rescue On NJ Transit Tracks In Newark

Daise the dog made it back home to her family… just in time for National Love Your Pet Day.

NEWARK, NJ — Daise, a lost dog found on the railroad tracks in Newark, has completed a hectic-but-smile-inducing journey back home… just in time for National Love Your Pet Day, NJ Transit officials reported Wednesday.

An eagle-eyed engineer, Anthony Guzuman, first spotted Daise as M&E train #6314 was headed eastbound near Newark, according to NJ Transit.

Guzuman stopped the train and brought Daise back to the Secaucus station, where NJ Transit crews set about trying to reunite the dog with its owners.

NJ Transit provided an update on Daise’s situation on Feb. 20:

“Reunited! We are happy to announce Daise is back with her owner. After being rescued, Dasie was taken to the vet to be treated for minor injuries. The shelter then contacted Dasie's family and she was reunited with them shortly after. What a happy ending on #nationalpetday”

Tuesday’s rescue wasn’t the first time in recent history that a NJ Transit employee has come to the aid of a lost doggie.

In October 2018, a dog was reunited with its owner after being treated to a free trip aboard a NJ Transit train.

According to a NJ Transit spokesperson, the crew aboard the #6923 from New York to Dover came across the lost pooch as the train approached the station in South Orange. When the crew spotted the canine, they put out a call about a "dog on the tracks."

After radioing dispatch to have the train stopped, conductor Howard Kempton sprinted after the furry trespasser, using his necktie to fashion a makeshift leash, authorities said.
