NEWARK, NJ — A Newark drive-in movie theater is trying to raise some holiday cheer in New Jersey by hosting a high-powered Christmas light show.

Ayana and Siree Morris, owners of Moonlight Cinema, are partnering with Dasher’s Lightshow, one of the fastest growing holiday light companies in the country, to bring an immersive “Drive-Thru Christmas Light Show” to Newark.

Here’s what to expect, the pair said:

“The light show will open its doors on Friday, Nov. 19 to get everyone into the holiday spirit. The pricing starts at $35 per car, making the event affordable for any budget. Families can connect their vehicle’s radio to 97.5 FM to listen to their favorite holiday tunes and watch the hundreds of thousands of lights dance and blink in sync with the music. The light show is open seven days a week, starting at 5 p.m. with the latest entry at 10:30 p.m. Families pre-purchase a ticket for the day and time slot that works best for them. They arrive at Newark Moonlight Cinema to check in during that time, make sure the radio for the car is tuned in, and then drive through the show. At the recommended speeds, the show should take 30 minutes.”

Moonlight Cinema is located at 220 Orange Street in Newark. Tickets can be purchased online here.

“I immediately loved the idea of bringing the lightshow to our city,” co-owner Ayana Morris said. “This is something I would experience with my own children.”

Siree Morris, the cinema’s other co-owner, agreed.

“I am really excited to bring a cool and dope experience to the city,” he said. “The lightshow is an extension of our mission to bring fun, socially distant activities to Newark.”

Jon Prebish, a managing partner of Dasher’s Lightshow, said the partnership with Moonlight Cinema was a winning combo from the get-go.

“Our goal is also to engage with the community on a long-term basis and give back to the community by offering fundraising opportunities to local nonprofits,” Prebish said. “Newark Moonlight Cinema saw that vision and embraced it more than we could have hoped for.”
