Off-Duty Prison CO Shoots Robbery Suspect In Newark: Cops

Emergency responders transported the wounded suspect to the hospital. The officer wasn't injured, Essex County prosecutors said.

NEWARK, NJ — An officer-involved shooting in Newark left a robbery suspect hospitalized on Sunday, authorities said.

According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, an off-duty state prison corrections officer shot a suspect during an attempted robbery, which took place during the early morning hours on the 200-block of Leslie Street.

Emergency responders transported the wounded suspect to the hospital. The officer wasn’t injured, prosecutors said.
