Election Day In Newark: See Changes For Trash, Court, City Hall
Election Day is Tuesday. Several services will be suspended in Newark; here's what to know.

NEWARK, NJ — Several services will be suspended in Newark on Tuesday for Election Day, officials recently reminded residents.

GARBAGE/RECYCLING -Trash will not be picked up by the city as scheduled on Tuesday, Nov. 8. Therefore, residents should not put out their trash on Tuesday, Nov. 8. Paper recycling will be picked up on Tuesday, Nov. 8. In addition, alternate side of the street parking regulations will not be enforced. Trash pick-ups will resume for areas impacted by the holiday on Friday, Nov. 11, along with bottle and can recycling for those areas.
CITY SERVICES - The Department of Health and Community Wellness’s inspection services, transportation for seniors, and health clinic, will not operate on Tuesday, November 8. In addition, the Bureau of Vital Statistics will be closed. Residents will not be able to apply for permits, birth certificates, name-change certificates, marriage licenses, nor pay water or tax bills at City Hall. However, the Medical Director and Department’s Division of Surveillance and Prevention are on call for medical and public health emergencies.

COURT - The Municipal Court will also be closed on Election Day. However, a judge will be available to preside over bail hearings for defendants in custody. Residents can make payments on parking and traffic tickets through the website www.njmcdirect.com. To utilize this website, residents will need their summons number, including the prefix, and the City of Newark’s court code, which is 0714.
