'Emergency' Shut Down Newark Airport (UPDATED)

The emergency stopped air traffic at the airport. The facility reopened after about an hour, but with restrictions.

An emergency shut down Newark Liberty International Airport on Saturday. The facility has since reopened, but many delays are reported.

United flight 2098 was traveling from LaGuardia Airport in New York to Houston when it made an emergency landing at about 8:40 a.m., according to the airline and Newark Airport.

The plane's tires malfunction, closing off parts of the runways. The airport reopened around 9:40 a.m.

The airport was still recovering from the mishap at mid-day Saturday and there were many delays reported. Please check with your carriers.

The plane reportedly had to make an emergency landing because it had hydraulic and tire issues, according to sources close to Newark Liberty, leaving airport-goers waiting.
