Enhanced Service On Newark Light Rail Extension Will Continue
NJ Transit has decided to continue a trial program that brought enhanced service to the Newark Light Rail's Broad Street Extension.

NEWARK, NJ — After hearing “positive customer feedback,” NJ Transit has decided to continue a trial program that brought enhanced service to the Newark Light Rail’s Broad Street Extension, officials announced Tuesday.
According to NJ Transit, the agency has increased weekday peak period service on the extension to allow trains to operate every 10 minutes.
The change comes after a trial of the enhanced service this past summer during Amtrak track work at Penn Station New York, NJ Transit stated.

“The response was extremely favorable during this trial,” President and CEO Kevin Corbett said. “We are pleased that beginning this week, we have incorporated the more frequent service into our regular weekday schedule.”

“NJ Transit implemented the 10-minute intervals, known as headways, between Broad Street and Newark Penn Stations during peak hours in conjunction with service adjustments to the Morris & Essex, and Montclair Boonton lines from June 17 to September 6. Customer feedback was so positive that NJ Transit’s light rail leadership decided to incorporate the enhanced service into the regular weekday schedule by staffing the required number of light rail operators so it would not negatively impact other service.”
The 10-minute headways will operate from approximately 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., and from 3:30 to 8 p.m. each weekday, NJ Transit stated.
