ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Essex County College and Caldwell University have inked a five-year deal regarding student transfers, administrators announced Friday.

The two institutions signed an articulation agreement on Feb. 21. Essex County College students earning associate in arts, or associate in science degrees can now “seamlessly” transfer to nearby Caldwell University with junior status, administrators said.

Essex County College has campuses in Newark and West Caldwell.

The five-year agreement commences on May 1. It is for designated programs for which the institutions have articulated program agreements, administrators said.

“This agreement will give more of our graduating students the opportunity to reach the goals they have set for themselves,” Essex County College president Augustine Boakye said.

“We are building on what we have done before,” Boakye said. “Our college provides students the opportunity to earn associate degrees – that’s what we do. But we certainly don’t want them ending their education at that level.”

“Our agreement gives them another avenue to move up,” Boakye added.

Caldwell University president Jeffrey Senese said it makes “perfect sense” for the two schools to work together.

“This agreement provides up to $30,000 in scholarship money for the transferring students,” Senese pointed out, adding that the two institutions will continue to look for more ways they can cooperate.
