Essex County Cops Find ‘Scooby Doo’ Heroin In Man’s Car

Essex County sheriff's officers found 480 heroin-filled envelopes stamped "Scooby Doo" in a hidden dashboard compartment, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — Police with the Essex County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 32-year-old man earlier this month in Newark after finding him in possession of 480 heroin-filled envelopes stamped “Scooby Doo,” authorities say.

The arrest took place as detectives conducted plainclothes surveillance operations in Newark’s North Ward at 6:40 p.m. on Dec. 5 along Stone Street between 6th and Park avenues, the sheriff’s office stated.

The incident began when officers allegedly observed a double parked 2014 Chevrolet Malibu obstruct the flow of traffic. When officers moved in to investigate, the driver, 32-year-old Angel Negron, tried to close a dashboard compartment hidden behind the vehicle’s radio. When police ordered Negron out of the car and took a further look, they could “plainly see” multiple clear plastic bags with 480 heroin-filled envelopes,stamped “Scooby Doo” in blue ink and 38 grams of marijuana inside.

During a pat-down search of Negron, officers found an additional 20 grams of marijuana and $291 in suspected “drug sale proceeds,” authorities said.

Police estimated the value of the seized contraband at $5,500.

Authorities charged Negron with two counts each of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of CDS with intent to distribute, possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of the Benjamin Franklin School and possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public housing complex. He was also summonses for double parking, obstructing traffic and CDS in a motor vehicle.
