Essex County College’s popular Saturday Youth Program will begin its Spring 2012 Semester program January 21 for 10 sessions at the main Newark campus.
The classes are geared toward children from age five to high school. Some of the programs have several sections to accommodate different age groups. (973) 877-3079Also ask about the new “Geometry” program being offered this year for students in grades seven through nine.
In-person registration will be held January 14 and 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 3198 (Green Area) at the main Newark campus.

Back once again is the New Jersey Assessment Skills and Knowledge test preparation in language arts, mathematics and science skills for students in third through eighth grade, public schools only.
Other youth programs include “Algebra,” for students in sixth through ninth grade; “Computer Discovery,” for youngsters six to eight years old; “Computer Graphics,” for students ages nine to 15; “Creative Arts,” for children ages five to 11; “Creative Writing for Public Speakers,” for students in grades five to eight; “Dance Combo,” for children ages five to 11; “Discovering Young Artists,” for youth ages five to 13, and “Fun with Phonics,” for children in kindergarten through second grade.

Also, “Improving Penmanship,” for students ages nine to 12; “Improving Reading Comprehension,” for children in grades one through eight; “Keyboarding and Word Processing,” for children ages nine to 15; “Martial Arts,” for children ages six through 15; “Musical Performers Studio,” for those ages eight to 15; “Problem Solving Math,” for students in grades one through six, and “Writing with a Purpose,” for students in grades five to eight.
Also offered again is Etiquette Workshops for Youth, taught by personnel from The Protocol School of New Jersey. This program is broken into three sections – Modern Manners for Children, kindergarten through grade two; Follow the Leader: Is it You? for students in grades three through six, and Executive Skills for Teens, geared toward those in grades seven through nine.
