Flight Disruptions At Newark Airport After Earthquake Shakes NJ
An earthquake hit New Jersey on Friday morning. If you're flying out of Newark, you should contact your airline, officials said.
NEWARK, NJ — An earthquake rocked the East Coast on Friday morning, disrupting flights at Newark Airport in New Jersey, officials say.
A magnitude 4.8 earthquake was detected with an epicenter seven kilometers north northeast of Whitehouse Station in New Jersey, according to the United States Geological Survey, which monitors earthquakes. See Related: Earthquake Rocks NJ, PA, NYC
Reports of buildings shaking began about 10:30 a.m. and lasted for approximately 30 seconds. The shaking was felt as far as New York City and Philadelphia, according to reports.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which runs Newark Airport, issued the following advisory at 10:42 a.m.: "Due to the potential earthquake, there are flight disruptions at [Newark Airport]. Please contact your airline for flight information."
AirTrain service at Newark Airport was temporarily suspended, with shuttle buses available at terminals and stations, Port Authority officials said.

The FAA's Air Traffic Control System Command Center showed that there was a ground stop and traffic management program in effect for planes at Newark Airport on Friday morning. Flights later resumed after the temporary ground stop.

The quake also caused headaches for train riders on Friday, with NJ Transit reporting delays in both directions on Friday.
