Flights Resume At Newark Airport After Nationwide FAA Outage
Newark Airport is reportedly back to "normal operations" after a temporary ground stop on Wednesday.
NEWARK, NJ — Newark Airport is reportedly back to “normal operations” after a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) computer outage temporarily grounded domestic flights across the nation on Wednesday.

According to the FAA, the issue stemmed from an overnight outage to the Notice to Air Missions system that provides safety info to flight crews. A temporary ground stop was issued for all domestic departures, and later lifted.

“We continue to look into the cause of the initial problem,” the FAA tweeted at 8:50 a.m.
The President has been briefed by the Secretary of Transportation this morning on the FAA system outage. There is no evidence of a cyberattack at this point, but the President directed DOT to conduct a full investigation into the causes. The FAA will provide regular updates.

The FAA authorized departures to resume at Newark Airport and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport around 8:15 a.m. due to “air traffic congestion” at those facilities. Departures were expected to resume at other airports at 9 a.m.

Delays at Newark Airport were averaging about 90 minutes for departures and arrivals on Wednesday morning, according to flightaware.com.
Authorities at Newark Airport tweeted that it was resuming normal operations at 9:25 a.m. Travelers should contact their airline for flight updates, officials said.
