Free ‘Gender-Affirming’ Haircuts In Newark For Trans Day Of Visibility

NEWARK, NJ — Need a new fade, buzzcut, taper, faux hawk, beard trim, layers, shears trim, shag, mullet or pixie cut? An event featuring free “gender-affirming” haircuts in Newark may be right up your alley.

According to an announcement from Garden State Equality, a free haircut event will take place on Friday, March 29 to celebrate this year’s Transgender Day of Visibility. It’s scheduled for 4 to 9 p.m. at the Robeson Center, Rutgers University-Newark, 350 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

The event is open to the public. Ages “teen and up” are welcome, organizers said. RSVPs can be made online here.

Aside from the free haircuts, there will also be other workshops at the event, covering a range of empowering topics such as “How to change your name in NJ Workshop,” “Hair and Makeup Support/ Guidance” and “Voguing 101.”
