Gas Main Break In Newark Causes Evacuations, Street Closures: Police

The Newark Public Safety Department reported that a gas main break near Mt. Prospect and 2nd avenues caused evacuations and street closures.

NEWARK, NJ — The Newark Public Safety Department reported that a gas main break in the area of Mt. Prospect and 2nd avenues required evacuations and street closures on Thursday.

“Newark police and firefighters are at the scene and PSE&G is assessing the situation,” authorities announced at 2:44 p.m.

Streets have been closed from 3rd Avenue and Mt. Prospect Avenue to 2nd Avenue. Drivers should anticipate delays and seek alternate routes, authorities said.
