Guilty Verdict In Fatal Newark Stabbing; ‘Panhandler’ Killed
A man stabbed another in the heart with a kitchen knife after an argument turned violent near McCarter Highway in Newark, authorities said.
NEWARK, NJ — An Essex County jury recently convicted a Newark man of aggravated manslaughter after he stabbed another Brick City resident to death during an argument in 2020, prosecutors announced Tuesday.
According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Lance Boone, 57, was found guilty of aggravated manslaughter, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose in connection with the death of Rashon Williams, 43.

“On July 27, 2020, Boone and Williams were panhandling in the area of Market Street and McCarter Highway, Newark. They had a verbal altercation, and Boone used a kitchen knife to fatally stab Williams in the heart. Williams was unarmed at the time.”
After a two-week trial, the jury found Boone guilty on all three criminal counts. He faces up to 30 years in New Jersey state prison, and under the No Early Release Act, must serve 85 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
Sentencing is scheduled for June 2, prosecutors said.
