Heavy Rain Floods Several Newark Streets, Including Route 21: PD
A heavy rainfall caused flooding on multiple streets in Newark. Drivers are being cautioned to avoid several others. See the list.
NEWARK, NJ — Heavy rainfall caused flooding on several streets in Newark on Monday, authorities said.
According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, flooding was seen on the following roadways:
- Ivy Street and Kerrian Boulevard
- Route 21 (north of Riverside Avenue - two lanes blocked)
- Avenue L and Wilson Avenue
Drivers were cautioned to avoid these locations, along with a list of potential flooding locations:

“The Department of Public Safety is coordinating responses to burglar alarms, flooding conditions and other weather-related incidents through the combined use of Police, Fire and Office of Emergency Management Personnel. Special attention should be given to unsecured outdoor furniture, awnings, refuse and building materials. For fire safety, please utilize flashlights, instead of candles, should you lose electricity due to this weather event.”
