High-Rise Apartment Fire In Newark; 8 Displaced, Firefighter Hurt

Eight people were relocated after a two-alarm blaze at a high-rise apartment building in Newark, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — Eight people were relocated after a fire at an eight-story high-rise apartment building in Newark on Sunday, authorities said.

The residents of 1060 Broad Street had already self-evacuated before Newark firefighters arrived at 9:22 p.m., according to the Newark Department of Public Safety.

A firefighter suffered an injury to his foot and was transported to University Hospital for treatment. One of the residents was transported to Saint Michael’s Medical Center for evaluation.

No other injuries were reported, authorities said.

Firefighters got the two-alarm blaze under control at 10:06 p.m. The Newark Department of Public Safety Arson Unit is investigating the cause and origin of the fire, authorities said.
