According to city officials, the CAO is currently working with employers to fill 200 positions at Newark, LaGuardia and JFK airports.

Recently, about 40,000 workers at the three above airports – which are under the dominion of the Port Authority of NY/NJ – began reaping the benefits of a hard-fought, years-long struggle for a higher minimum wage.

In September 2018, the Port Authority Board of Commissioners unanimously adopted an expanded minimum wage policy for the three airports that will bring the salaries of thousands of workers to $19 per hour by 2023.

The boost – which comes after years of protest from local labor groups – means that the workers will soon earn the "highest minimum wage in the country," according to labor union 32BJ SEIU.
