Historic Newark Fire Event Parades through Washington Park

Firefighters, families, friends celebrate 44th annual apparatus muster

More than 200 people gathered Sunday afternoon on Washington Street in Newark for the 44th Annual Newark Fire Department Historical Society Antique Fire Apparatus Muster and Parade.

With more than 20 fire companies from New Jersey represented, friends and families were treated to food, drink, music and a chance to explore antique and modern firetrucks displayed on the street near Washington Park.

Many firefighters took this opportunity to reconnect with friends and remember those lost in the line of duty. Mark Tomko, commissioner of Wallington Fire Department, said the event is a "good chance to rehash some old stories of years gone by." Damien Emerick, battalion chief of Newark Fire Department, said it was a great chance "to get together and enjoy the day.
