Holiday Tree Lighting Will Return To Newark For 2022

There will also be musical performances and a "message of hope" – and yes, Santa Claus is expected to make a special appearance.

NEWARK, NJ — A yearly holiday tree lighting event in New Jersey’s largest city will return for 2022.

The City of Newark’s 37th annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at the City Hall first floor rotunda at 920 Broad Street.

According to a municipal news release, Mayor Ras Baraka, Deputy Mayor of Community Engagement Jacqueline Quiles, Municipal Council Members, singers Alana Smith and Raneka Smith, the Newark Boys Chorus and other dignitaries will join municipal employees and residents from every ward at the event.

Along with the musical performances, the mayor will deliver a “Message of Hope.” After that, he and the other attendees will illuminate the tree.

And yes, Santa Claus is expected to make a special appearance, organizers said.
