ICE Arrests Accused Child Rapist At Newark Airport

A Hungarian man accused of statutory rape was apprehended at an airport in New Jersey, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — A Hungarian man accused of statutory rape was apprehended at Newark Airport earlier this month after he allegedly tried to flee the United States, authorities announced Tuesday.

Mihaly Bodner was arrested at Newark Liberty International Airport on March 13, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The arrest was made without incident by ICE agents, who were assisted by New York/New Jersey Port Authority Police, United States Customs and Border Protection and the Federal Air Marshals Service.

Bodner was arrested on a warrant out of the Hornell City Court in New York. He has been charged with first-degree statutory rape of a child under 13 years of age.

Bodnar admitted to law enforcement officers that he was attempting to flee the country on an outbound international flight the same day, ICE said.

“When our team at Newark’s airport received a call from HSI Buffalo that the suspect was believed to be attempting to flee the United States, they immediately coordinated a search,” ICE Homeland Security Investigations-Newark special agent in charge Ricky Patel said.

Bodnar will be prosecuted by the Stueben County District Attorney’s Office in New York, authorities said.

Bodnar could face up to 25 years in prison if convicted, prosecutors said.
