Knife vs. Metal Rod: Co-Workers Battle At Newark Airport

A man got stabbed but managed to fend off a co-worker with a metal rod during a fight at Newark Airport, Port Authority police say.

NEWARK, NJ — A 48-year-old man managed to fend off a co-worker with a metal rod during a Friday evening fight at Newark Airport, but not before suffering knife wounds to his arm and stomach, authorities say.

According to the Port Authority of NY/NJ, officers received a report of a knife assault at building 340 inside the airport on Airis Drive around 9 p.m. On arrival at the scene, the officers found a 48-year-old man with a deep puncture wound to his left arm and a laceration to his stomach.

The man told officers that he and a co-worker got into an argument which escalated into violence. He said that when his co-worker attacked, he managed to fight him off with a metal rod.

The man’s co-worker then fled the scene before police arrived, authorities said.

Emergency responders transported the injured man to Newark Beth Israel Medical Center for treatment. While at the hospital, police found out that the alleged assailant drove himself to the same medical center shortly after the stabbing to get “checked out” and was still on the premises.
