Learn How To Become A ‘Small Landlord’ At Workshop In Newark
Prospective landlords can get some tips from experts about their rights – and responsibilities.
NEWARK, NJ — Want to know what it takes to be a “small landlord?” A workshop that focuses on educating and empowering members of the community who own a residential multi-family property – or who are planning to purchase a residential multi-family property – will take place in Newark on Thursday, Dec. 12.
The New Jersey Citizen Action Education Fund will hold its first public Small Landlord Education Fund workshop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at La Casa de Don Pedro, 23 Broadway in Newark.

According to a news release from organizers, topics will include:
- Tips for prospective landlords
- Steps to purchasing a multi-family home
- Rights and responsibilities of being a landlord
- Maintaining and repairing a property
- Short-Term Rental Opportunities (Airbnb)
Speakers will include experts from New Jersey Citizen Action, the City of Newark, Coldwell Banker Realty, Chase Bank and the NJ Division of Civil Rights.

“By promoting small and multi-family homeownership opportunities we’ll help families and communities in Northern New Jersey build generational wealth,” organizers said.
The program is made possible by a grant from the JP Morgan Chase Foundation.
