Man Swipes Phone From Woman He Harassed At Newark Penn: Police
The Essex County man fled on foot, smashing the phone and breaking it as he tried to escape, police said.

NEWARK, NJ — Port Authority police arrested an Essex County man at Newark Penn Station on Wednesday evening after he tried to steal a cell phone from a woman he’d allegedly been “harassing,” authorities say.
According to the Port Authority of NY/NJ, officers on duty at the station around 7:30 p.m. saw Rasheed Wood, 38, of Newark, struggle with a female victim and attempt to take her phone by force.
When the officers intervened, Wood fled from the scene on foot, smashing the phone and breaking it as he tried to escape. Another Port Authority officer intercepted wood and arrested him after a short struggle, police said.

During the chase and struggle, an officer sustained a knee injury. They were taken to the Jersey City Medical Center and later released.
“An investigation found that the suspect and victim were known to one another and that the suspect had been harassing the victim in person and via cellphone,” Port Authority police stated.

Police also found Wood to have three active warrants. Authorities charged him with robbery, criminal mischief and resisting arrest.
