Medieval Times’ 1st Female Ruler Visits Newark YMCA (PHOTOS)

Queen Isabella – the iconic NJ dinner theater's first female ruler – can finally cross off Newark on her royal tour list.

NEWARK, NJ — Queen Isabella can finally cross off Newark on her royal tour list.

Last week, “Queen Isabella” – a character played by multiple actors at Medieval Times in Lyndhurst – paid a visit to the Brick City, where she spent time with children and parents at the Newark YMCA on Broad Street.

After the North Jersey landmark restaurant and dinner theater introduced its first-ever female ruler earlier this year, the chosen queens have been making well-received tours across the Garden State.

In the show, the queen acts as a central character, inheriting the throne after the death of her father, the king. It’s a welcome development to many fans of the restaurant/theater's 28-year history.

During Isabella’s visit to the YMCA on Nov. 20 – her first to Newark – she talked about her responsibilities as ruler of the castle and brought along two of her Medieval Times “knights,” who gave an exciting demonstration of the type of sword fighting they do in the show. Isabella and her knights also taught kids about the many hours of practice that goes into choreographing such battles.

After taking questions from the audience and giving each child their own crown and wristband, the queen and her knights headed back to their castle in Lyndhurst. See more photos from the event in the above gallery.
